Reports To: School Cafeteria Manager
Job Goal: Assist in managing and coordinating the day-to-day food service operations of an assigned school site; assist in assuring compliance with District, State and federal requirements and laws regarding nutrition, sanitation, safety and record-keeping.
Performance Responsibilities:
- Assist the cafeteria manager in managing, coordinating, and overseeing the day-to-day food service operations at an assigned school site; assist in analyzing the effectiveness and assuring compliance with District, State and federal laws, regulations, safety, and sanitation procedures.
- Assume responsibilities of the cafeteria manager when the cafeteria manager is absent for a short or extended period of time.
- Inspect lunchroom and kitchen area daily to assure compliance with health, safety and sanitation requirements and regulations.
- Plan work schedules and coordinate daily work for efficient use of labor; receive calls from employees and call substitutes as necessary.
- Train and assist employees in the proper handling of foods, correct use and care of equipment and in maintaining high standards of sanitation and safety.
- Maintain, prepare and review a variety of menu production records, inventories, logs and reports; accumulate data and input information into a computer as appropriate and file documents as necessary. Report any concerns to manager.
- Supervise and participate in food preparation and distribution to District students and staff; plan for catered events such as meetings, activities and parties; plan and coordinate food service operations with school activities to improve school and community relations and increase student participation.
- Positively and effectively communicate with students, staff, faculty, and outside organizations to exchange information, receive suggestions, and resolve issues related to food service.
- Participate in, schedule and attend in-service meetings and workshops. Acquire level 1 School Nutrition Association (SNA) certification within 6 months of assuming position.
- Able to lift heavy objects up to 25 pounds.
- Assure compliance with District, State and federal requirements.
- Train others in the preparation and serving of food in large quantities.
- Read, interpret, apply and explain rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
- Analyze situations accurately and adopt an effective course of action.
- Meet schedules and time lines.
- Effective use of computer programs, including but not limited to, Google Suite, web-based programs, Microsoft Office, email, and any other program designated by the district.
- Plan and organize daily, weekly, and monthly activities that support the kitchen.
- Maintain records and prepare reports as assigned by the cafeteria manager.
- Demonstrate positive interpersonal relations by interacting effectively with and demonstrating respect for the views, rights and contributions of parents, teachers and other school personnel.
- Maintain appropriate professional appearance.
- Act as a consistent positive public relations agent for school and district programs and activities.
- Maintain confidentiality of information regarding individual students and their families as well as team members.
- Implement and adhere to all rules and regulations, policies, administrative guidelines, and directives as adopted by the Board of Education, Principal, Administrative Staff, Superintendent and School Based Decision Making Council.
- Maintain acceptable personal attendance without repeated unexcused absences, tardiness, absences without notification, or abuse of sick leave.
- Perform any other duties that may be assigned by the Cafeteria Manager, Food Service Director, Administrative Staff, or Superintendent of Schools.
