Qualifications:  48 college hours, OR high school diploma and successful completion of the Kentucky Paraeducator Assessment (KPA)

 

Reports To:  Building Principal and Classroom Teacher

 

Performance Responsibilities:

 

1. Under the guidance and supervision of a teacher, effectively implement learning strategies, prompting procedures and other systematic instructional procedures in school and non-school settings.

 

2. Assist teachers and other professionals with adapting learning materials and equipment to meet the needs of students with different abilities and learning styles or language backgrounds.

 

3. Implement teacher developed plans or strategies to enhance the fluency, maintenance, and generalization of academic skills.

 

4. Perform routine clerical duties such as preparation of instructional materials; maintaining attendance, setting up student work areas; and operating video, computer, adaptive devices, and other technology devices and materials.

 

5. Implement teacher-developed behavior plans and techniques that adhere to the laws, regulations and procedural safeguards concerning the management of student behaviors.

 

6. Assist teachers and other professionals in modifying the learning environment to facilitate learning and manage behavior.

 

7. Assists the teacher in record keeping and monitoring student progress.

 

8. Supervise students in academic and non-academic settings as directed by the teacher or principal.

 

9. Model and encourage respect and value for individual differences.

 

10. Participate in professional development related to job responsibilities.

 

11. Supervise lunch, library, and/or playground activities of students as directed.

 

12. Demonstrate positive interpersonal relations by interacting effectively with and demonstrating respect for the views, rights and contributions of parents, teachers and other school personnel.

 

13. Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to ensure the safety of students and staff.

 

14. Administer health services to students as necessary including, but not limited to, the administration of medication; the operation, maintenance, or health care through the use of medical equipment; or the administration of clinical procedures.

 

15. Maintain appropriate professional appearance.

 

16. Act as a consistent positive public relations agent for school and district programs and activities.

 

17. Maintain confidentiality of information regarding individual students and their families.

 

18. Implement and adhere to all rules and regulations, policies, administrative guidelines, and directives as adopted by the Board of Education, Principal, Administrative Staff, Superintendent and School Based Decision Making Council.

 

19. Maintain acceptable personal attendance without repeated unexcused absences, tardiness, absences without notification, or abuse of sick leave.

 

20. Perform any other duties that may be assigned by the Supervising Teacher, Principal, Administrative Staff, or Superintendent of Schools.
